During a visit to Norway in 2007 I learned that in order to maintain high salaries, unions actively lead innovation in big and small companies. We visited one and talked with unionists, workers and managers and it seemed to be true🙂.
Now the ‘Economist’ quotes Aleksander Zuza, from the Swedish Trade Union IF metal as viewing the job transfer of industrial work to low cost countries as natural. In Mr. Zuza’s opinion, Western countries cannot employ any longer workers in companies that are not viable, but focus on high end products that are best in class.
Shouldn’t Unions in Spain, France, Germany and Italy have a look to their Northern colleagues, at least to start innovating themselves? I really would love to start a project of organizational innovation at Union (but also in the backward Spanish employer’s organization CEOE). And I would take into the journey the radical approach of Julen Iturbe and the breakthrough viewpoints of Esteve Almirall.
